Pray for Ukraine

The Rev Daniel Whiffin

Churches around the world are making today (Ash Wednesday) a day of fasting and prayer for the people of Ukraine.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written a pastoral letter to the clergy and people of the Church of England, calling on them to pray for peace in Ukraine.

God of peace and justice,
We pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children,
at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.

In a recent statement from the Vatican, Pope Francis called on all people, Christians and non-Christians alike, to express solidarity with those whose lives are threatened by the present crisis.

Our 6.30pm Holy Communion service at St John’s today will include a special time of prayer for peace in Ukraine.
