Tanzania link

St John’s is very happy to be linked with the Anglican Diocese of Kondoa in Tanzania.

Kondoa was established in 2001 to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to a region which previously had little contact with Christians.

In September 2018 St John’s had the opportunity to celebrate our link with Kondoa when Bishop Given came to one of our Sunday services as the guest preacher.  Later the same month our Vicar Andrew visited Tanzania and spent a week with the Bishop.  During his visit Andrew delivered a course of theological education to all the pastors and catechists in the Diocese of Kondoa, hosted at the Cathedral and Kondoa Bible School.

The training focused on the centrality of Christ in Scripture and included a book-by-book walkthrough of the Old and New Testament.

Reflecting on his time in Tanzania Andrew writes:

There were so many highlights that it’s difficult to know where to start.  I was thrilled to be welcomed so warmly by Bishop Given and his family, by the staff at the Kondoa Diocesan Office, and by the church leaders.  It was a huge encouragement to arrive at the Cathedral each morning and find the pastors and catechists ready with their Bibles and notebooks open and discussing the material from the previous days’ sessions.  They also started each seminar with amazing singing, some of which I was able to capture on film.
