Open again – and staying open!

The Rev Andrew McClellan

The refurbishment of the wooden church floor is now complete and we are looking forward to being back in the building from this Sunday (18th April) onwards.

With the work done and the promise of no further lockdowns, we hope not to have to close our building again for the foreseeable future!

However our 10am Sunday services will continue to be live-streamed so that those who are staying at home can still join us online week by week.

The refurbished floor looks stunning (the photo doesn’t do it justice!).  The floor tiles have been sanded and completely re-surfaced.

All the cracks have been filled so the former trip hazards are now a thing of the past.

While the floor refurbishment work has been progressing, another team of specialists have been replacing the damaged stones in the low wall at the boundary of the church garden.

The new stones weigh 73kg each and have been cut to match precisely the old stones, some of which are undamaged and are being kept in place.

At present the new stones look a rather different colour from the old but they will blend in once they have been in place for a while.

I am confident that these major fabric projects represent a significant investment for the future ministry of St John’s, ensuring that our church will remain at the centre of our community for many years to come.
