The Bishop of Rochester has written to church leaders, praising the efforts of churches to keep their members safe from COVID transmission: “The evidence is that there have been hardly any incidences of infection through attendance at acts of worship. This is testament to the care that we have all been taking.”
The statement came in a joint letter from the Bishops of Rochester and Tonbridge in the light of the Prime Minister’s latest statement on lockdown guidance.
The bishops welcomed the fact that church buildings can still open both for individual prayer and for public worship. However they emphasised the importance of abiding by the relevant guidance, particularly in discouraging any ‘mingling’ before or after services.
