Data Protection Law

The law around data protection changed on 25th May 2018 with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

At St John’s we adhere to this legislation. The information below explains how we keep personal data safe and secure.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

If you fill in our ‘contact us’ form, your data is sent to us and retained for the purposes of replying to your message. If you sign up to our mailing lists, we will store and use your date to notify you of our activities as per your instructions.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We store anonymous data from your visits to our website and analyse this to understand how we might improve our services.

How we store your data

St John’s takes data protection very seriously.  Any details you give to us such as your name, postal address, telephone number, EMail address and tax status for Gift Aid purposes are stored in computer files which are held securely and backed up regularly.  Written records, such as Banns of Marriage or Holiday Club application forms, are kept in secure storage.  We do not collect or store any information via our church website.

Who we share your data with

We never pass on your personal details to any other person or organisation unless you ask us to.

How we use your data

We would like to stay in touch with you with regular notices of our events and other news.  We occasionally send details of church events by Google Mail, with EMail addresses in the BCC field so that other recipients are unable to view your data.  If you decide you no longer want to hear from us, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link included at the bottom of our emails.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How to update your data

We want to make sure that information we hold about you is up to date.  You can contact the Church Office if you would like to change or update your information, or to check what information we have about you.  Before revealing that information to you we will apply some checks to verify your identity and ensure we do not share your details with anyone else.
